DESCRIPTION

A bush bark timber hut of known location.

HISTORY

Members of this hut were involved in the very first recreational hut built on the mountain in 1888. Like several others, this hut was burnt down in 1897 but rebuilt. The fashion for gentlemen associated with this hut included bowler hats. The third photograph shows members of the Gray Brothers from Bruny Island assisting with clearing around the hut.

McConnell assessed this hut as having High Local Significance, Medium State significance individually and as part of the suite of historic heritage mountain huts and Some National significance.
