The earliest newspaper reference we have to an ascent of the mountain by pedal power is 1938—just a year after the Pinnacle Road opened, but the mountain would need to await the arrival of the mountain bike in the 1990s to create history.

Mountain biking began in the early 200s and surged with the construction of the North South track. It is an increasingly popular recreational activity on the mountain with 40 kilometres of dedicated trails now built or planned—that will make it about half the length of the walking track network.
